Lake Erie

Lake Erie Threats

The major ongoing threats to Lake Erie are excess phosphorus causing harmful algae, plastics, PFAS and other pollution sources that continue to be added to the waters. The solution to pollution is to reduce the sources and stop more from coming into the waters.  Funding should target the reducing the largest pollution sources. For harmful algae, phosphorus sourced must be reduced, the same for plastics and PFAS. Allowing more pollution to enter the water increases cost for treatment and perpetuates the pollution sources.

Major threats to Lake Erie's waters and fish are harmful algae, plastics, PFAS, and other pollutants.
